Option choices.

August 4, 2008

OK i need advice.

Last year I took:

  1. Commercial Contracts
  2. Property Law
  3. Civil Liberties and Human Rights

No 3 was the devil for me. I thought it’d be easy (just memorise the Human Rights Act, ECHR bla bla). Well, surprise surprise, it bit me in the *&^%. It wasn’t very structured, and didn’t have any clear cut layouts and syllabus, which is what I need from a subject. The subject was very subjective, very much “what do you think?” kind of thing. Which I hate. Because, well, I have no opinions. I had such a bad year in that subject. The class was filled with enthusiastic people who had their arms glued to the ceiling, eager to voice out opinions about Tony Blair, Al-Qaeda, Dworkin vs Waldron debate, multiculturalism, politics and the likes. You know, stuff I read to go to sleep.

I know, I know, I’m lazy to think. I could probably do it if I made more effort. But I’m much happier memorising statutes, and doing dry, black and white subjects.

So, next year options:

  1. Company Law
  2. Medical Law
  3. Family Law

I want to do (1) because I think it would be useful to draw me an outline of the corporate world, which will inevitably be useful for me in anything I do. Considering I don’t plan to practise, I chose the supposedly easy subjects for the other two options (i.e. 2 and 3). But I’m not going to fall for that “supposedly easy” line my coursemates give again. So I need to do some research.

I think I’ll be ok with Medical, cos it’s relatively Tort-ish. Medical negligence, abortion, euthanasia, drugs that sort of stuff. Right? *bites nail*

But I’m worried about Family. Some say it’s really easy. Some say it’s hard to score cos the bulk of it is about opinion (e.g. women’s rights, divorce, adoption, custody) . That brought dark flashbacks of Civil Liberties. So, I’m stuck now. Help me!!
