not my bowl of popcorn
April 28, 2010Up In The Air.
2 hours of my life I will never get back.
Sigh.
Such a depressing movie with an even more depressing ending.
The only thing that kept me going was George Clooney.
When he hooked up with that lady….the girls and I only had one thing on our minds.
“Lucky **$%*”
But it was nice of the producers to feature those workers who got retrenched during the recession. The good thing about this movie was that we get to see the real hurt and anger of the unemployed and how cold the corporate life really is. On the other hand, we have to understand the companies’ situation also, faced with an increasingly tight cashflow due to the economic downturn that they just can’t afford to pay more salaries (of course there is that big bonus issue that really puts companies in the hot seat).
The only one who can intervene is the government, by creating jobs and bailouts, which also has its pros and cons.
See how depressing this movie is?!
It was supposed to be a relaxed Sunday with the girls. The synopsis says “comedy”! Well, none of us laughed. ๐
aahh totally agree! hated the ending. i was like…’whaaat? what kind of an ending is that!?’ and my boyfriend was like ‘okayy what’. still dont get what boys like about the movie :S
If you want to have a good laugh, watch ‘When in Rome’ it’s hilarious!
I think the movie is deliberately made to not to be cliched and typical like other comedies. It just offers something very honest and real- and there’s nothing unreal about being laid off. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJltcT7DH7g&feature=player_embedded
I love the irony of the story as well, and personally think that it’s a well-constructed movie. But that’s just my opinion. ๐ the movie does speak to different people in different ways.
I also agree with you anonymous, although we’ve probably been watching too many movies with typical cliche endings that when this came along, it was…a bit of a shock to us. Well it was to me! I guess it’s the honesty part that hurts a girls soul to see a depressing ending like this one. Nevertheless it was an interesting watch.
I loved it! My kinda movie, can totally relate. Same director as “Thank you for smoking” which i totally loved as well.
Oh dear. David, we can’t watch movies together! haha
