lea salonga in malaysia

May 23, 2010

I only knew I had to go for Lea Salonga show an hour before the show! You can imagine my rush (honestly, my life is a big rush these days!! :s)

To be honest, I have never heard of her before. So I quickly googled her and my god, I felt so stupid. She is a HUGEEEE Filipino star having many many awards under her belt. She is huge in the broadway industry, having starred in Miss Saigon, Les Miserables, The Sound of Music and may more!

I was also surprised to find out that she was the voice of Mulan and Princess Jasmine in Aladdin. She was a Disney princess TWICE!! That is COOL…

Her voice?

Not the pop ballad kind of lady…she’s the real deal.

The kind of voice that is flawless, having such a huge range of erm notes? Pitch? Key? Wahh…suddenly now I’m so expert thinking I can comment on people’s way of singing. Hehe. I swear you should see my parents and I watching Akademi Fantasia. We’re so good at criticising, better than the judges! Then when the judge says the same thing we thought, “You see?! I said it first. I can also be the judge la. Pftt.”

Then you ask us to sing….umm..

Sorry, I’ve digressed.

Lea Salonga is not only a good singer, she is also very entertaining. She’s funny and captivating as she makes jokes and tell stories. Well, I guess with years of experience all over the world, she’s really world-class.

Last night she wore a black dress, similar to the Armani Prive dress Penelope Cruz wore to the Golden Globes.

She belted out a few numbers from her musicals and Disney cartoons. But what touched the audience was that she sang a P. Ramlee song without even knowing how to speak the Malay language.

“I’m really nervous, but I’m going to try and sing a song by P Ramlee.”

The crowd cheered happily.

“Oh god…was he huge?”

So cute!

When she sang “A Whole New World”, a guy from the audience named Iz quickly offered to sing with her. Such a brave guy! He did it really well until I almost thought it was planned.

Anyway, I hope you read this before 8pm tonight because it’s not too late to get tickets. It’s her last show tonight! Go, go!! And come back and tell me if the same Iz sings with her tonight. If yes, then it must be staged!
