where life takes you
September 27, 2010I love going to construction sites because that’s where the theory becomes reality. You feel and touch the real thing, and it’s not something you can learn from the books. I have always been a big believer of practical experience more than theory.
That’s why I sleep during classes but pay utmost attention to labs. That’s why I’m bad at paperwork stuff, because I can’t sit still for very long. I need to go out and do something. That’s why my sister and I complement each other at work; because we’re total opposites when it comes to choosing office departments!
I was in Johor and visited a construction site that uses our IBS system. It was a spontaneous visit so I wasn’t prepared in my heels and all. We had to drop by somewhere to get the girls some proper covered shoes suitable for the construction site.
Erm, this was the best we could find…
Didn’t even bother taking off the tag! I wore them as they were from the shop! Hehe.
Some people made fun of me… Pfftt they don’t know fashion.
Mud stains here and there.
I’m the type of girl who used to go home to change when I spilled evenย a bit of curry mee on my school shirt! High school PD is probably wondering where adult PD went wrong. Haha.
For someone who grew up playing Barbie dolls and Polly Pockets, I never thought my line of work would be construction and property development. I always thought I would grow up and play with fabric and fashion trends, but now I’m playing with bricks and sand! And I love it! I might not be as experienced or as knowledgeable as some people are, but coming from a girly girl who knows nothing about engineering, I don’t think I’m doing too bad.
It’s really interesting how life takes you where you are at this current moment. We all have different paths that God chose for us. Some are planned by us while some just take us by surprise.
Wherever we are, we should always learn to love it, make the most of it and always be grateful.
‘Wherever we are, we should always learn to love it, make the most of it and always be grateful.’
AMIIIN. ๐

Even the shoes you wore to the site are branded. love it though. Ken Block will be proud ๐
I love this post. I feel very related to it as wel.. never knew I’ll end up in finance myself.. ๐
thank you for inspiring. now i pumped up for monthly visits. love it how you let loose.;)
I share the same belief. I would never imagine ending up in Tokyo for work for 2 months. I do miss my life in Sydney but I am grateful for what I have and appreciate every moments given by God.
i think ure slowly getting there. slowly, but surely.
tak pernah terpikir backpacking ke nepal boleh terjumpa future husband hahahaha.. dan kemudian bersama dia menjadi suami isteri dan menetap di kampung halamannya di canada.
Tu skate shoes tu. Heh. Ye la, Vivy. Safety helmet is a must!
u are so funny and nampak baikk sangatt…nice to kenal with u…
Polly Pockets! those are the cutest things ever!
kids nowadays don’t know what they are missing hurmph
and you look like my baby niece trying on her uncle’s sneakers haha.
Haha you look so cute in the second last picture where you’re pointing at something – like a little girl bossing the men around ๐
That said, I’ve always found it exciting to look forward to what the future has in store. Looking back at my very first blog posts, I really couldn’t imagine that I would be where I am today.
Hey u..wheres the safety helmet?Safety first tau!Hihi *da macam safety officer pulak i sounds*^_^
btw vivy, luckily u’re at construction site, if u’re at the road work site…oh my my my…ur boots were full with the thick premix and the smell are bad…even the sound from the paver and tandem roller…plus the workers are not from our country, they just simply pull over their pants to “shee shee” right in front of you…too busy to find toilet…hehehhe…welcome to engineering world a.k.a civil engineering…me love it…
hi PD.
you should totally consider buying safety boots and safety helmet and keep it in you car.
it’s very dangerous to wear normal shoes and not have head protection when ure on site.
safety first
And now, almost 6 years after….
You’re playing with fabrics and fashion trends!
To comment on your old posts would probably sound too stalkish (which I shamelessly admit), but sometimes in between office tasks I would randomly visit your old posts just to pick up some mood.
Thanks, Vivy.
Dear Vivy, I have been reading your blog descending from your oldest post June 2008 til this post right here. My intention to read your blog are because I wanted to know 1)How did you get to Fashion Valet 2)Why dUck is called dUck 3)What happened before FV and dUck.
Reading through your old post – seeing you in different tudung/telekung other than your stylish dUck is a very weird view to see. I’m so in awed of how far you’ve become. I really adored you.
After a lot of reading and came to your word “For someone who grew up playing Barbie dolls and Polly Pockets, I never thought my line of work would be construction and property development. I always thought I would grow up and play with fabric and fashion trends, but now Iโm playing with bricks and sand!” – look at where you stand right now! A fashion icon, posting 3 OOTD perday and definitely playing with things that you love the most. Keep it going V! Bring more inspiration to us.
Salam sayang from K.Khairina.
