annoyed
October 27, 2010Grrrrrr…
Am so annoyed with Maxis. It keeps barring my phone. And when I pay, the next day it gets barred again when I don’t even use it and data roaming is off!! Ripping me off…
I so want to switch to Celcom when I get back. Better deals also!
p/s: when you switch off data roaming and use wifi to get BBMs and emails, do you get charged?
OMG.. totally true.. maxis is annoying these days..
it happens to me too Vivy. my new bill started 16/10, up until 26th, i’ve been charged with RM88! i hardly call anyone n i used the internet using the RM18 plan. FISH off lah maxis.
That just happened to my colleague last week. After being barred, he paid Maxis via ATM. The very next day, he received the barred message requesting payment again. So annoying.
No.. you shouldnt be charged if data roaming off. Using WIFI is just like IPOD with WIFI. If you’re being charge go complain.. they are definitely ripping you off.
Hi
My daughter’s bill soared to more than RM1600, while roaming in the UK. When we contest to justify for the bill, maxis told us all the bullshit. We switched to Celcom since, we found out Maxis is cheating on us.

PD,
Don’t say things like that dear. Please PM me your number and I’ll get it checked.
Btw, did you set a credit limit to your line? Also, what is the postpaid plan that you are on?
Hawa is right on the WIFI usage.
Hope you will allow me to help you with your problem.
Wassalam,
Azmir Z.
PD,
Sorry, I just read your comment again. By BBM, I’m assuming it is BlackBerry Messages, right?
In order for you to get BBM and emails (via BB network, not through the internet direct) then effectively you are leveraging on the mobile network that you are attached to to connect to the BB RIM network.
What this means is that Maxis will get charged by the wireless provider for this access and that in turn means that you will be charged as well.
I may be wrong, but I think this is the case.
Hope this helps.
Zaleha,
What exactly did customer service tell you? I’m curious to know if you don’t mind sharing.
azmir: WHATT!?!!!!!! i was told when I use wi-fi, it’s free. only 3G i’ll get charged. pls could u confirm this for me? maxis staff are telling me different things, which is quite annoying because customers get different information each time they call.
Sometimes partner operators incorporate their WIFI network with their GSM network.
Again I may be wrong. But you can’t access BB RIM network without going through a GSM network, unless I missed out on the latest technology memo. π
PD, it would really help if you give my your number. I can check if you will be incurring data charges. PM me please.
Wassalam.
Happened to me too!I stopped going on 3G after my 4th day (even that with very minimal use) in Europe but my billed amount rose up to about RM1k and only stopped increasing 2 days after me going off roaming and switching off my maxis phone altogether!
It’s just so annoying especially when I think of that Anya Hindmarch bag I could’ve gotten with RM1k++ =(
When I called Maxis all they said was something like ‘oh that’s the data roaming charge’ Haih =(
omg, same happen with me, I switched to Digi straight awayyyyyy when I touch down Msia last month.! (I used Maxis since ’01)
Vivy, I also had a bad experience with Maxis… they will always find ways to charge you incessantly. I even got charged for using free WiFi locally =.= You can refer it to MCMC if things got worst.
Sholee,
I think Customer Service might have misinformed you. Assuming the free WiFi you were referring to comes from the establishment (Starbucks, etc) you were frequenting, then your mobile device will be ‘disconnected’ from Maxis network when you use data. Therefore, we won’t be able to charge you.

It happened to my dad as well. He’s on the iPhone package and even though he switched off data roaming etc, he received the bill and was charged RM2900. Apparently it is because he didn’t close the window for a website he visited (despite exiting Safari) so it was continuously charged. We were like HUH? BUT THE DATA ROAMING’S OFF?!
So we asked for the breakdown of the usage (c’mon, this is RM2900 you’re talking about here!) but they never sent it. Just kept on barring my dad’s line. THAT, was very unprofessional of them. What more, with iPhone being more complicated (more apps, functions), it was trickier. Even if you don’t roam pun most iPhone users are complaining of the billing, what more when roaming.
I don’t know what’s up with Maxis but they REALLY need to be more transparent with their customers. They should really EDUCATE and ADVISE their customers on the data usage especially when roaming. Rather than asyik barring je, they should attempt to call when looking at our exorbitant usage to advise/warn us about it. Like how credit card customers would be treated lah. If credit card centres can do that, why don’t Maxis take similar initiatives?
10 years ago I signed up for Maxis. As they ran out of sim cards, they promised to deliver it to me.
One month later, I got the bill from Maxis, but no sim card.
Then I choose to ignore the bill and moved to Celcom.
Fortunately for Vivy, she got friends in Maxis to help. But it’s sad that you need friends to sort it out instead of the Maxis customer service doing it, and misinforming the customers.
At least, Celcom customer service treated me with respect compared to Maxis who ignored my request to terminate the existing but no sim card line.
Once a Celcom Customer Service called me informing me that I have not paid my bill. Celcom did not bar me, she called to advise me to pay up to avoid the barring. But since there is a disconnect with the billing and auto billing, she did not realise that I just set up an auto billing facility.
The lady apologised to me on their oversight.
And I don’t know her personally.
Eventhough I want so much the iPhone, since it is Maxis I choose not to. And kinda sucks really, Maxis promoting iPhone, but when you want to enrol, they enrol you using non-Apple Macbooks π
Celcom, Maxis and Digi have their own strengths. But that one experience with Celcom’s customer service made me decide to stay indefinitely with them.
anh,
We are trying to simulate this specific problem when customer switches off data roaming on their phone and roams overseas. Preliminary findings indicate that you won’t be able to use data at all, thus, no charges SHOULD be incurred.
However, with smart phones, there could be some background apps, that consumes data, running on the background. Whether this is charged or not, I will have to verify. Once I get the confirmation, I can post it up here FYI.
Btw, you can find out data roam charges by typing *100# on your phone. It will bring you to a menu. Just go through it until you find the right info.
As for educating and advising customers, recently Maxis have implemented an SMS service to our data roamers that alerts them of their current data usage while they are roaming. Depending on the package you are on, Maxis will send different alert messages based on a preset threshold.
Of course this alert is just an estimation of usage, but it should give the customers ample warning/indication on the charges that they will have to bear.
I hope this clarifies. If you have any questions with regards to roaming, do let me know – it’s what I do in Maxis.

make a complaint, Vv

i,m also having the same situation…my bill is so high when i’m using the internet eventhough i’m using it for less than 5 minutes…last year i switch to celcom…more convenient now..
yah… since last time maxis are like that… so annoying…
What I can say, I give up on Maxis. I used since 2000, and this year I switch to Digi. No more complains & no more worries on bill. ;p
maxis suck..always cekik darah one..i leaved maxis longgggggggg time a ago n never turning back even i wnted Iphone4 so badly!
my advice celcom always the greatest one..soo cheap so effective!
omg! yeap. i had the very same problem! pay today and next few days got disconnected. maxis is super annoying.
Listen to us, switch to CELCOM asap!
Better coverage in remote locations in Malaysia, better plan, got drive-thru bill payment in town and excellent customer service!
Celcom is just great for post-paid plan!
Seriously!
MAXIS CHARGED ME RM300 JUST BECAUSE I SWITCHED ON MY PHONE WHEN I WAS IN PARIS!
AND THEY TOLD ME ITS BECAUSE THEY NEED TO SETUP SOME S**T.
EXCUSE ME? RM 300? I CAN GO SHOPPING WITH THAT AMOUNT OF MONEY!
i alwiz wonder, i will not get any connection when using elevated hi-way (just above the menara celcom) but wondering the celcom user when they lalu2 kat bwh menara maxis ?? i can hear my papi clearly bila dia at that area and yes, i’m maxis user, papi celcom user.. patut la my bill melambung.. zzzz
Ha Ha Ha Ha.
Tahniah MAXIS. banyak sungguh ‘puji-pujian’ untuk mu di sini π
Celcom Customer Service mmg terbaik. menang award dah byk kali… cuma x keluar tv je, mcm mng Oscar π
I took (and am currently on) a trip to london π
my digi bill was CRAZY HIGH.
so i did this : paid 5 pounds for a UK number and bbm service.
basically 5 pounds for unlimited internet in the uk for a month.. it saves u so much money
i got myself an Orange number
terrible MAXIS.. and award goes to .. celcom! yeeha! but always depends on package u’re using though.. if unlimited internet access with fix amount of charges a way better than have to pay on every single internet usage.. better solution like G.S said, u should off the maxis phone and use orange number (or other line) in UK.. 5 pounds can use for a month! so great! sigh PD, better check how much ur current bill, might put more smiles on maxis..
I have overbilling from maxis 2 months in a row..
Customer service tried in vain to help..but to no avail. i personally took leave and went to maxis centre and practically forced them to print out my data usage bill.
After all the hoohaa..they removed ALL my data usage extras (other than commitment) as goodwill and i was happy..
The next month the same thing happened again..and i was royally pissed off.. I got the email of maxis COO (the gweilo) and shot him an email explaining my situation, his PA replied on the same day…and after all the explanations, they banked ina cheque to clear off all my data bills on goodwill.
I have since changed to DiGi as i dont want all these headaches dealing with bloodsucking companies who charge first, think and deal later. What if consumers are not aware, or on autobilling where they pay whatever amount?
At least with DiGi or Celcom…no such headache..
BTW VV, U can’t use BBM via WiFi. π
