glorious red carpet

October 29, 2011

So I got a call from Nani at 8 am.

“Mmmhmmm…?” rubs eyes.

“Orange cair!!” was what I heard at first.

Called for help and rushed like mad to the office.

Holy…. the office was flooded. Nani wasn’t having one of her crazy days. There was actually water all over the pantry area.

Turned out on Deepavali day, one of the pipes burst and flooded the pantry area and spilled over to some of the office area too.

After I calmed down, 2 things ran through my mind:

1) I really need to thank God that no valuables were damaged in the water and it was just a small flood in the office. Could’ve been much worse considering water was flowing for a whole day without anybody around!!

2) Finally I can change the hideous red carpet. I can’t remember whose genius idea was it to have red carpet all over the office floor.

Soon, we all became like the seven dwarfs in Snow White. Rolled up our pants and got to work.

We had to scoop up the water that had risen because the our feet were getting way more water therapy than we ordered.

We couldn’t find anything else to scoop up the water with, so we used tupperwares. Hahaha. I have this obsession of keeping the containers “for rainy days”. Rain, water, flood, the irony.

And we didn’t know what to put the water in, so we cleaned out the dustbins and they became acting water buckets.

Man…. there was soooo much water underneath the carpet. We filled up the water buckets to the brim so many times! I got so tired I scolded the carpet for peeing.

We broadcasted the news to Singapore on Skype too the whole time.

I called Asma’ and asked, “Good morning! Did you have a very nice time sleeping?” with my hair all messed up and sweat dripping down my face.

“Yes, I did, thank you.”

“That’s nice. Now, look at this!!!” I stepped away from the videocam and gave her a glimpse of an episode in The Reality Show of series.

“Oh…my…god!!!! What happened?!!”

Well, she tried her best to help after that.

Useless…but sweet. But useless nonetheless.

Thankfully, everything’s fine now. The professional flood-busters came to save the day a couple of hours later.

The carpet’s a bit damp in the kitchen area still, and the professionals are going to keep coming to fix it.

So, in the meantime, we have a new feet “orchestra” in the office.

Open main door.

Tap, tap, tap, tap.

Thirsty, goes to fridge.

Squish, squish, squish, squish.

Goes back to table.

Tap, tap, tap, tap.

Goes to pantry to put down glass.

Squish, squish squish, squish.

Oh well, music to our ears, hydration to our feet.

Silver lining cloud something something!
