brown stuff
July 16, 2013I never thought of myself as the pantang bun-on-head-and-kain-batik type, but since my sister and sil did it and both moms are adamant on it, why not? 44 days of rest and massages… sounds pretty delicious. The only things I’m grumbling about are not being able to go out and not being able to drink iced drinks!
Anyway, that’s my problem and I shall deal with that by teaching myself PATIENCE.
In the meantime, I thought I’d humor you guys with this. So my confinement lady rubs all these herbs and whatnot all over my body after the massage session. I don’t actually mind it but when it dries up, I leave a trail of herb dust behind me whenever I move or walk. Hehe. You should see my mom’s maid trying to follow me everywhere with a vacuum cleaner and scolding me for walking around the house i.e. messing up her floor.
It’s actually quite disgusting, the thing. It’s all brown with gooey bits a bit like you-know-what.
I asked my confinement lady one time, “What is this for?”
“This is to buang angin and for your slimming so you can get back into pre-pregnancy shape quickly.”

Love love love ur posts
Very real n true to ur self
To which we all can relate to
This one in particular makes me miss my confinement time hehe
Bonding with baby, breast feeding, “room service” 3 times a day hehe… Not the sleepless nights though but yeah, confinement…good ol’ days
MashaAllah you still look so beautiful despite having brown goo (pilis) dabbed on your forehead. culturally, pilis is used for reducing headache due to sleepless nights, i honestly couldn’t make sense of this but hey our elders went through this so it must mean something right. the hardest part of my confinement was not being able to drink cold water! but i was fine for 44 days. some people even went over 60 days without cold drinks. i couldn’t! i immediately had my first glass of iced tea on the 45th day. it was heavenly :’) anyway enjoy your confinement. you won’t get the hammam (well, close to) like treatment everyday! congrats on baby D btw he is just as adorable as you are π
It’s quite refreshing to see you want to follow our tradition…some so called modern women skip this ‘pantang’ part and even consume cold drinks or food right after delivery…a few of my friends were like that, and they face several illnesses now, it is worrying since they just in their 30’s!..one of them experiences some early signs of stroke..scary!
Anyway, by posting your pantang experience, you will be good role model to young women out there..good job Vivy..
Do u drink ‘jamu’ too?..not everybody can swallow that stuff..hehehe..but actually it can ‘kempiskan perut’ very fast..
Enjoy ur days Vivy, ‘pantang’ nowadays is not boring since we have internet!..xox
wow..cant wait for the labour story..haha
Would love to have your urut lady contact. She’s good based on your review.
Assalam, enjoy ur pantang and breastfeeding moment. Maybe u can learn how to feed Daniel while lying down. Rest & feeding at the same time, gd luck V
Vivy darling where are you? PLEASE update your blog!!! GRRRRRRRRR
i pun at first pakai pilis during my confinment period for my 1st baby. tp x suka sgt sbb herba tu akan jatuh bila kering. habis katil and lantai.
then i tukar pakai minyak herbanika Nona Roguy.
it’s has the same effect, and it’s easier to use because it’s oil and not paste.
try lah, and if u want to try, beli yg botol besar, sbb yg botol kecik effect dia kureng sket, kurang berangin. x sure kenapa.
