I was feeling pain and of course me being the anxious me, it MUST be a contraction and I MUST be in labor now.

So we went to the emergency labor ward and asked to do a CTG (this procedure where they put ultrasound thingies on your tummy to monitor the baby’s heartbeat and your contraction levels).

I lied down on the hospital bed while Dean waits patiently with his Candy Crush on the chair next to me.

From time to time I felt pain and I told Dean excitedly, “Omg we’re going to be in labor finally!!!” and I was in such a good mood. We even made jokes and laughed and fantasized about how Baby D would look like.

Then suddenly, we heard a song being played in the corridor outside the room.

I can show you the world… shining, shimmering, splendid… tell me princess, now when did you last let your heart decide….

A whole new world…. a dazzling place I never knew….

Dean and I looked at each other and we burst out laughing.

“Omg someone gave birth and they’re playing this song!! That’s hilarious.”

“Holy cow, this is one cheesy hospital…”

Then we started to discuss what song we would like to request when Baby D comes out.

After half an hour, the midwife came back to read the graphs.

I was already thinking about how to get my hospital bag from home and to call our families to tell them we’re in labor.

The midwife turned to me and said, “No contractions. You can go home now.”

There were no words to tell you how disappointed I felt. At home, I continued doing squats around my dining table. After I got tired, I sat down on the couch and just sighed. Baby D, when do you think you’ll come out? Tonight? Tomorrow? I’m so excited to see you and I’m also getting so heavy!, I said out loud to my big bump.

I looked around the room to realise I was alone.

Oh what the heck… let’s try this. Maybe it will convince him to come out faster.

I opened my mouth and sang.

I can show you the world… shining, shimmering, splendid… tell me princess, now when did you last let your heart decide….

A whole new world…. a dazzling place I never knew….

Nothing. Not even a false contraction.

Gahhhh!
