eating in
January 16, 2017One thing you might not know about the New 2017 Vivy?
She cooks. Everyday.
I know, right. I keep surprising you with my domestic goddess-ness.
Hahahahaha.
Ok but seriously, I found a love for cooking in 2016 and ever since we moved into our new home, I’ve been feeling all domestic-y. Domesticky – what a cute word I invented. Haha. What I love most about cooking is not the taste of my cooking (I’ve served bitter curry before, and burnt chicken.. but you know.. not like they have any other choice…). But it’s the relationships that are strengthened through cooking. When I cook, I am in the kitchen with my helpers and it’s seriously so fun to just hang out with them and fuss over things and if we’re in fact sure if that’s salt or sugar we just put in the soup. And I swear I think they also love it, because we talk and laugh and I like to korek from them any problems that they’re having with their jobs. I always say that helpers who live with you are also a part of your family, so it’s your responsibility to take care of them and make them feel loved too.
And then of course, the eating part where it usually takes half an hour to get everyone seated that you sometimes just wanna take your food and eat it alone in a corner. #faster. Especially with small kids who are restless, it’s almost impossible to tear them away from their TV/toy/colouring book/iPad/bicycle/fridge/trail of ants they’re intently watching/insert anything at all here. But when everyone comes together and eats and talks about their days (well, me and Dean talk about our days while Daniel sings over us and Mariam smears rice all over her face), it’s just like one of those perfect family moments we see on TV. And when husband and wife help clean up together, that strengthens their bond too and grows the love (or whatever you need to say to convince your husband to help out with housework hehe)!
Doesn’t matter where we are, how much food we have on the table, or who didn’t help set the table, but the fact that we are given the blessed opportunity to eat with our loved ones in peace; that’s a huge rezeki that some people don’t even have.
So to more eating in and less eating out this 2017!
You save a whole load of money too! Well unless you have a wife like me who wants to buy more kitchen stuff. Then it kinda cancels out so you might as well eat out. #womenarecomplicated #butyouchosetomarryus #jokesonyoubrother
Is that chicken curry you’re cooking in the picture? 😀
As for our family, we used to eat outside a lot. But too much eating outside made us really miss home-cooked meal.
Nothing beats home-cooked be it just the simple Telur mata kerbau served with hot rice, some kicap and home made sambal belacan.
Yummy!
It’s kind of interesting though to make resolution – to cook everyday ????
#jokesonyoubrother hahahahhahahhahahhahha
vivy, tell you i kawen when i was 31 and i start to cook ever since. i really dont know how to cook because since i was younger salu ada helpers at family home. when we moved to our own place, im on my own hehe.
after 2 years being married, i cooked a lot already. usually when i cook my hubs will do the dishes and clean the kitchen 😀 #thebonding
Good job vivy!Lepas ni boleh la pulak buat pastry
Helpers???? Do u have more thankak siti as your helper??
that trail of ants got me laughing out loud. my tots always calling me in the middle of my domestic goddessness just so i can watch the ants together
masak sendiri indeed more healthy, save money and even tak sedap u still can eat it. LOL
By reading this entry makes me wanna show off my cooking skill to the family. hahaha
Love your post vy!
Hi Vivy! I’ve read ur recent post on instagram regarding the latest viral article & what makes eveyrone astounded was because your name is in it. Me myself as one of ur blog readers, just wanna tell you, please dont think too much about it because Vivy, we malaysians right here love you & always be supporting you. We take ur message positively of course.
So let’s just assume “Those people” as somewhat negative people & let them be. They cant reach even further, Vivy.
Yes, We love you! hehe mmmuah
I am super lazy to be in the kitchen. Well why waste few hours standing when the meal turns out so bad. I get annoyed so easily and thus give up the kitchen for few months. Haha. But really cooking is a sort of therapy actually. It is a sort of me time, decluttering for few good hours while praying it will turn out well haha
I remember that I’ve commented in one of your blog posts that we should use “helper”, not “maid”. I MAJOR LOVE THE FACT THAT YOU HAVE CHANGED THE WORD “MAID” TO HELPER. Thanks Vivy. Happy to see people have started using it because of you. You really can influence people in a good way, alhamdulillah 🙂
Nahiarrun: I remember your comment. You made me see things I never realised 🙂
kak V, sirap bandung please 😀 ok.kidding. tengok masakan ni mesti teringat Dean pggl you sirapbandung 😀
Domesticky. First thing that crossed my mind, “Yeaps, on point! Doing house chores sure makes my body feel sticky.” Hahahahaha
Great point of view and surely agree with you. Being active in the kitchen makes us want to equip our kitchen with tools and gadgets. I have to remind myself that I am not a chef but only a cook; someone who loves cooking 🙂
